FAQs about Next Meats Products

All Next Meats products have excellent protein content, have zero cholesterol, and have lower saturated fats than regular animal meats. We are working on research and development to further enhance our nutrient contents and make our products as beneficial to our bodies as possible.

Next Meats has put in the most effort on replicating the taste and textures of real meat. We’ve received quite a lot of feedback from our beloved customers saying “If I wasn’t told this was not meat, I wouldn’t have noticed!” and “This is so incredibly real!”. But we’re never done improving, so stay on the lookout to try the latest versions of our products!

Our main ingredients are soy and pea. (Please reference each product page to see details.) We plan to research and use other ingredients that are non-plant based as well, such as micro-algae.

We only use Non-GMO Soy. We use soy from Japan as well as overseas.

Some of our strengths are: 1) Our products are 100% plant-based, making it a viable choice for vegan and vegatarian people too. 2) We only use ingredients that are the best and what is absolutely necessary, meaning we avioid using artificial additives such as colorings and sweetners as much as possible, so even families with children can eat them on a regular basis with peace of mind. 3) Unlike the common minced meat type, Next Meats has sliced and block type products which are great right after grilling, or in a myriad of dishes. And finally, 4)Our products are already cooked, so you can have them right away after heating it up. Helping slow down climate change has never been so easy!

They are the version numbers of the product! We are always researching and trying to improve our products, so we wanted to put numbers on them. Like the latest gadgets, when the latest version is released, the products will be updated and the numbers will change.

You can use the Next Yakiniku Short-rib and Skirt-steak just like regular sliced meats! They’re delicious after simply grilling on the pan with oil, you can dice them up to make tacos, or you can add them to stir-fry with your vegetables, or top them on noodles–the possibility is endless. Other products are more flavored but they can be used to make other dishes as well! Please check our recipe from banner above for detailed recipes.

Currently, all our products are made in Japan (you can find the manufacturer information on each package). In Summer of 2022 we plan to produce our products in our own factory that we are currently constructing.

FAQs about Meat Alternatives

Meat alternatives are foods made from plant proteins and other ingredients that replicate the taste and texture of meat and can be used as a substitute for animal meat. There are two main types: those made from plant proteins such as soybeans (plant-based meats), and meat created by culturing cells from cows, pigs, and other animals, outside the animal body (cultured meat).

When it comes to plant-based meats alternative many companies in Japan use soy for their main ingredient, whereas in other countries, peas are most commonly used. As for cultured meats, Singapore and Israel is leading the way and some companies have begun to use 3D printers to make cultured meat steaks of any shape and size (Reference: https://nextmeats.jp/210216-aleph-farms/). The most common shape is minced meat, which is commonly used for hamburger patties, hamburger steaks, and sausages. There are also sliced and block types, and Next Meats develops the sliced type as its main product. The sliced type is versatile and can be used for stir-frying with vegetables or diced for tacos and other dishes, while the block type can be used for deep frying and dishes like sweet-and-sour pork. There are still very few steak-like block meats available, so Next Meats is working to develop them. In terms of taste and texture, most products in the market resemble beef or pork. The pork type is very popular in Asia, especially in China and Hong Kong. There are also products that resemble chicken, and in Australia, there are even products that resemble deer meat.

There are many reasons why meat alternatives have gained attention in the recent years, but the two biggest factors might be their environmental benefits, and from the growing concern of the global food supply shortage expected to come. The livestock industry emits a lot of greenhouse gases during the production process, and it is said that about 15% of all greenhouse gas emissions are caused by “excess livestock (meat) “* production. This number is equivalent to the emissions emitted from all modes of transportation combined. Not only that, but producing animal meat requires a significant amount of natural resources such as land and water, when compared to producing the same amount of crops such as grains and vegetables. Shifting from consuming animal meat to alternative meats can alleviate these environmental strains, so it has been gaining recognition. Second, regarding food supply–according to the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, by 2050, the world’s population is expected to increase 1.3 times compared to 2010, and food demand is expected to increase 1.7 times–to about 5.8 billion tons. If the production of meat increases along with the population growth, the environmental impact will become even greater, and there will not be enough land to meet the demand. Because meat alternatives are plant-based and require much less resources, they are said to be one of the solutions to this food supply crisis. (Reference: IPCC “Global Greenhouse Gas Emissions Data”)

If you compare the resource usage of soybeans and beef to produce 1kg of each, soybeans use 81% less energy, 97% less land area, 87% less water, and produces 99% less greenhouse gas emissions. In the future, we would like to show the specific environmental impact (degree of load reduction) of each of our products. Reference: https://ourworldindata.org/environmental-impacts-of-food”
